You’re finally moving from that small apartment to your newer, larger home in a matter of days. The packing is already done, but the problem is you’re leaving behind a ton of rubbish and you are not sure how to get rid of it. You certainly can’t leave it behind for your landlord to take care of.
If you don’t have a large vehicle to transport the rubbish you’re trying to get rid of, then you’ve come to the right website. Here at Speedy Bins, we provide skip bins of different sizes for home and business owners on the Sunshine Coast. We accommodate different types of waste, including soil, heavy waste, and green waste. But what we specialise in is transporting and disposing of general waste.
If you haven’t used a skip bin to get rid of rubbish before and you’re probably not familiar with what is considered general waste, this article will be helpful for you. Let’s get started.
What is General Waste?

General waste includes rubbish you can commonly find at home, a store, an office, or sometimes, a construction site. Domestic general waste includes furniture, old books, used clothes, and kitchenware. Also included on the list are towels, linens, toys, pillows, tools, and plastic containers.
If you have stacks of old magazines or newspapers, then those go into our general waste skip bin, too. Broken white goods, such as washing machines, refrigerators, AC units, and freezers, are also considered general waste.
If you own a store, then keep in mind that the same rules apply. Carton boxes, damaged merchandise, plastic bags, and other similar items are allowed in our skip bins. The same goes for office rubbish, including chairs, tables, broken or old computers, printers, and paper junk.
If your builder left behind very small amounts of construction rubbish that you don’t know how to get rid of or you recently had your home remodelled, then you can dispose of them using our skip bins, too. Construction items that we consider general waste include a few pieces of gyprock, some pipes, electrical wiring, and concrete.

Our Sunshine Coast skip bins can also accommodate some steel rebars, a few pieces of bricks, a sheet or two of corrugated iron roofing, and some pieces of wood. But make sure that construction waste does not make up the bulk of rubbish you’re going to dispose of. If it does, then it’s best to get our heavy waste skip bins.
Things You Can’t Include When You’re Disposing of General Waste

- If you’re getting rid of domestic waste, then food waste is definitely something you should not include in the things you’re going to dispose of.
- Water or any type of liquid is also not allowed, along with paints, petrol, and solvents.
- Insulation, ceilings, flooring, pipe insulation, door covers, and construction materials that contain asbestos.
- Toxic or corrosive chemicals.
- Filled or empty butane or propane bottles.
- Car tyres and batteries.
- Fluorescent lights and fire extinguishers.
- See the Sunshine Coast Council’s recycling regulations here
